This service will be discontinued during the Summer Semester. It will start again during the Fall Semester on Thursday, August 28, 2008.
Penn State University has partnered with Fullington Trailways to provide round-trip express bus service from State College, PA to New York City (including Dover, NJ ). Known as the “Big Apple Express”, this round-trip service will run every Friday and Sunday while Penn State is in session. The bus will leave from the State College Bus Depot (located at 152 N. Atherton St.), drop off at the Rockaway Mall in Dover, NJ, and arrive at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan . There will be three (3) discharge points when returning to Penn State – East Halls, Pattee Library, and the Bus Depot. Tickets can only be purchased at the Bus Depot (phone # 814/238-1100). The price for a one-way ticket is $43 and $86 for a round-trip ticket. Ticket prices from Dover, NJ to New York City or New York City to Dover, NJ are $10 each way.
The Thursday and Friday schedule is:
- Leave State College Bus Depot @ 2:30 pm,
- Arrive Rockaway Mall @ 6:00 pm,
- Arrive New York City @ 7:15 pm,
- Leave New York City @ 8:00 pm,
- Leave Rockaway Mall @ 9:00 pm,
- Arrive Penn State/State College @ 12:30 am.
The Sunday schedule is:
- Leave State College Bus Depot @ 11:00 am,
- Arrive Rockaway Mall @ 2:30 pm,
- Arrive New York City @ 3:45 pm,
- Leave New York City @ 5:00 pm,
- Leave Rockaway Mall @ 6:00 pm,
- Arrive Penn State/State College @ 9:30 pm.
Penn State President Graham Spanier championed this idea since there are more than 5,000 students at Penn State with homes in New York and New Jersey . Spanier said State College has had “very unreliable and sporadic bus service to New York in the past and this new effort is something we plan to stand behind in the future.” Additional information is also available at www.transportation.psu.edu/psu2nyc.
