Director of Maintenance

The position is responsible for the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of the Fullington fleet of vehicles, which consist of vehicles ranging from sedans, vans, and motorcoaches.

Job Status: Full-time

Essential Tasks

  • Oversee the repair and maintenance operation for all fleet vehicles, including garage operations
  • Interview all prospective mechanics. Counsel employees; develop/implement/monitor adherence to policies and procedures; answer oral and written communication
  • Knowledge of maintenance software, RTA to track PMs, stickers, and fuel consumption
  • Plan/develop and execute a vehicle and equipment replacement schedule in coordination with dispatch needs
  • Determine the need and benefits of out-sourcing vehicle repairs or services
  • Negotiate and establish repair cost or parts pricing with commercial vendors
  • Maintain equipment records in accordance with federal, state, and local laws
  • Review/process purchase requisitions for parts and supplies; review vendor bids and responses for tools, equipment, parts, and services; monitor expenditures
  • Identify/coordinate training needs for garage employees
  • Perform related work as required

Physical Requirements

Some standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.

Special Requirements

The fleet manager should have the following skill set:

  • Complete and up-to-date knowledge of state and federal transportation regulations Good communications skills. The ability to communicate, verbally as well as in writing
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Experience in leading garage personnel and setting up training
  • Knowledge of diesel and gas engines
  • Knowledge of computer software to diagnose vehicle issues
  • Knowledge of Motor Coaches, MCI’s
  • Knowledge of State Safety Regulations, State Motor Vehicle Regulations and State Trucking Regulations
  • Knowledge of Body Repair estimating
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation Laws (DOT)
  • MUST have CDL License ******
  • MUST obtain PA State Inspection license
  • Knowledge of state and federal record-keeping requirements
  • Ability to think on one’s feet, make decisions quickly and handle emergencies effectively
  • Knowledge of environmental cleanup responsibilities
  • Obtain and maintain truck licensing and registrations, emission testing, daily and annual inspections
  • Maintain work orders and parts inventory
  • Hire, train, schedule time worked and time off, manage employees
  • Responsible for shop safety
  • Comply with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and state laws
  • Must have experience in maintain large fleets

Education & Experience

  • Extensive experience as a garage management
  • and/or fleet manager (3 years manager level minimum)
